Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place. 1 Chronicles 16:27

How we think about God matters. A lot.
Take a minute and jot down the first ten words that come to mind when you think about what God is like.
Depending on your background, our lists might look completely different — but I’d bet many of us wrote down things like loving, powerful, creator, good, or just.
If I were describing my husband, I could give you a solid list of words like faithful, disciplined, hardworking, and confident. All true! But if I didn’t also mention funny, kind, goofy, quirky, and compassionate, you’d end up with a very incomplete picture of who he really is.
In the same way, our descriptions of God will always fall short, but it’s still important to keep expanding our understanding of who He is and how Scripture describes Him. And in 1 Chronicles 16:27, we get a stunning set of words added to the list: splendor, majesty, strength, and joy.
I’m guessing those might not have been at the top of most of our lists — and that’s okay. But now let your imagination stretch a bit: picture the splendor and majesty of God… and then picture a giant, joy-filled smile on His face. God is joyful. He’s the source of joy. His home is full of it.
I hope you can picture God smiling at you today — and that joy fills your home as you think about Him.
