The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

How lovely is this imagery? To be rejoiced over with singing?! Personally, I love musicals. When someone has a song in their heart and they just can’t help but let it out - THAT is how much God loves you.
I recently re-watched the Sound of Music because my daughter’s favorite song is do-re-mi (she's almost 2). At any point in time she could be mid conversation and burst into song or demand you sing “doe a deer” alongside her, it is hilarious and delightful. She has a song in her heart and just can’t wait to let you hear it.
The book of Zephaniah was written in order to shake the people of Judah out of their complacency and urge them to return to God. As God’s prophet, Zephaniah was bound to speak the truth, and he did this boldly.
In the third chapter we find a message of hope through God’s salvation and deliverance for those who are faithful to him. The verses right before this say the Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. This is true hope, grounded in the knowledge of God’s justice and in his love for people.
So, let’s look at this verse again. “The Lord your God is WITH you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take GREAT DELIGHT in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will REJOICE over you with singing.”
Singing is a proclamation of celebration and of joy. He delights in those who delight in Him. Let us delight in the joy of the Lord together today by singing.
Reflect: Pick your favorite hymn and play it out loud. Sing along and REJOICE - for this is a time of celebration. Jesus is coming, how exciting!?
