“Israel, put your hope in the Lord. For there is faithful love with the Lord, and with Him is redemption in abundance.” Psalm 130:7

When I was in high school, I loved watching movie trailers.
Yes, teenage girls have odd obsessions. My friends and I got so hype scrolling youtube and getting excited about that new rom-com, a teenage murder mystery, or the next Harry Potter movie. Oh, and there will be a midnight premiere? We were there. Who could resist?!
After the pandemic and having a couple of kids, I have found myself visiting the movie theatre with much less frequency. But reading this verse made me reminiscent of some of that “movie trailer” anticipation.
The build up to Psalm 130:7 is the writer crying out to God that their life is on the line, they are desperate… but in verse 6 they declare that they will “watch and wait until the morning” -and they repeat that line twice. Then verse 7 leads us to this confidence that hope in the Lord means he faithfully loves us, that he’ll redeem our lives in abundance. It means he delivers, and it’s huge.
So I wonder - do I wait with excitement?
Have I paused to imagine all of the best possibilities… how life’s disappointments, unanswered prayers, or looming unknowns might be redeemed by a God who can do it all?
Am I eager for “redemption in abundance,” and am I praying towards that hope?
Question to Ponder: Am I eager for “redemption in abundance,” and am I praying towards that hope?
