“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” John 1:9
En lumine tuo, vidibimus lumensFor several years now I’ve ended my regular prayer practice with this latin phrase from the 36th Psalm which translates to “In Your light, we see light.” Even several millennia before the birth of Jesus we see Biblical authors contemplating Him; the light that gives light to light itself. You could think about it forever. I think about it a lot.But the advent season isn’t just inviting us to think on it. The advent season is inviting us to prepare ourselves to receive it as our great hope and ultimate companion. In this season we slow down and take time to contemplate that the thing which gives birth to all things, the Christ, chose to come be with us as us, born in a manager and wrapped in swaddling clothes. Christ is not here to be figured out or thought about. Jesus came to be in relationship. Take time in your prayers today and silently let that very good news wash over you. That which gives light to light has a face and a name and a deep desire to be your friend forever.-Matt Fisher
