Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5
The word ALL really tugs at my heart here. I find it easy to love God, but I find it can be hard to love God with ALL of my heart, soul, and strength. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I’m selfish, and sometimes I fall short. But that isn’t the point. The point is choosing to pick up your cross daily and choose a life that is honoring and glorifying to God. To love God with all of your heart, soul, and strength is to surrender your entire being and be liberated by God’s mercy, grace, and goodness. We are called to love God, think constantly about his commandments, teach them to our children, bind them around our necks, and live each day by the guidelines in his word. Following Jesus is wonderful. Following Jesus is hard. Hard and wonderful things inspire people and change the world. Loving God with all of ourselves is the first and greatest commandment. The second is to love our neighbor as ourselves. How can we focus on these today? How can we show God how much we love him? How can we love those around us in a way that is so rich, so selfless, and so bright that it points them to God, and only God? - Lex Mcghee
